YBY Plans for the summer activities in West Yorkshire parks are well underway.

Healthy Living Park Programmes have just been finalised for Wibsey Park Bradford, and Bramley Fall Park Leeds, thanks to funding from Leeds City Council and the national lottery, respectively.

As ever, with our HLP projects (we have now delivered 4, in partnership with the marvellous local ‘Friends of’  groups) the twin aims are to get more people into the parks, and more health into the people. The more people we can get into the parks, the more support we can generate for park improvements (which councils rarely have the funding for these days, its local communities that need totake the lead). As for our health, well the obestiy figures are qute alarming (more than 1 in 4 primary school children are obese) and whilst sugar taxes and other regulations may help at the margins, we really need to be providing more opportunities for everyone to live healthy lives. So activities include yoga, football, dance, nature walks, storytelling for toddlers, rounders, guided walks, and much more, and all in a beautiful park setting!

Anyway, enough of the politics (and I somehow managed to not use the dreaded word ‘austerity’) we are doing what we can. In addition to the HLP programmes mentioned above, we have some funding from Sport England to provide multi sport activities, in parks in the LS6 area of Leeds (see flyer)walking football image

We are starting off with walking football, walking netball, yoga and a half hour session to finish in the cafe!

All activities are free, no need to book. So, if yolu live in the Wibsey/West Leeds area, do come along!

And if you need more information, ring Tony on 07970903766.

See you there!
