We are starting to build up quite a series of guest speakers’ events for our Getting Active and Online participants!
This week after Sarah’s Pilates class we welcomed our Digital Inclusion volunteer Ummu and her peer Grace who delivered an informative talk on nutrition.
Both Grace and Ummu study Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Leeds so, their brains were full of knowledge, ready to be put into practice, for our participants needs and diet requirements.
The talk linked together key health issues such as Osteoporosis with the Eatwell guide and 6 key healthy ageing points they identified which included eating fibre rich foods and exercising.

P.S – that’s a sign for you to get involved in our walking sports, walking group or online exercise classes!
They went on to explain the ‘traffic light label’ which the majority of the class did not understand or pay attention to before the talk (including myself!).

We would like to thank Ummu and Grace for taking the time out of their busy partying and studying timetable to deliver the talk to everyone.
If you want a copy of their slides feel free to email kyra@yourbackyard.org.uk.
