Walking Football with OWLS Lads Lunch

Published by Tony Mullin on

On Friday the 12th October, 12 lads from the OWLS Lads Lunch joined Tony from Your Back Yard and a volunteer from OWLS in a walking football session held at the Carnegie Stadium’s indoor sports hall. The session was part of our ongoing programme of events for over 50s in the LS6 area, which you can read about here.

The session was a huge success, with both the amount of people taking part, and their ability, being a lot higher than expected. 11 of the 16 people who turned up to the lunch took part in the walking football, and the lads who played were very keen to take part in another session in the future. This is an extremely positive thing, as it is very important that older people stay as active as they can in order to ensure good health and well-being, both physically and mentally.

It was great to see them all have such a good time, especially seeing as a lot of them hadn’t been able to play any form of football in many years.

We are working with OWLS and BEA to organise further walking football taster sessions, and hope that even more people will get stuck-in!
