Introducing our new Project Development and Digital Inclusion Officer: Rachael.

Published by Rachael Tierney on

Hi everyone! My name is Rachael and I’m currently a University of Leeds undergraduate student studying Media and Cultural Studies. I opted to take part in a work placement year with Your Back Yard, as I was enthralled by the opportunity to work within a community that I have grown to love and understand over the past 2 years. I’m excited to see what the next 10 months have in store!

My course explores the intricacies of the media world in combination with the detailed and vast subject that is cultural studies. Cultural studies has unlocked a profound interest in culture, community, and society within me. I’m excited to enhance this, along with my digital knowledge, further through my placement at Your Back Yard!

A huge part of my role will be centred around digital inclusion, something I’m extremely passionate about, as I believe everyone should have everyone should have stress-free access to the digital world, regardless of age. The impact of COVID-19 has triggered a huge amount of digital exclusion for older generations, and I’m excited to be a part of the team that works towards resolving this. I’m similarly excited to meet and engage with the members of the digital inclusion cafes, as well as the volunteers who are making this happen. I am a strong believer in the vitality of voluntary work, as volunteers provide a fundamental and selfless service to third-sector organisations. I look forward to working with those who have chosen to volunteer with Your Back Yard!

I’m keen to keep everyone up to date with what’s going on within the organisation throughout the year, so if you haven’t already, please make sure to follow the socials listed below!
