Your Back Yard  won a tender to work with Bradford Council and Born in Bradford to find out how to get more children and young people, including their families, more physically active in Bradford. We were excited to be part of such a fantastic and large-scale project, as well as being able to work alongside these organisations!

This piece of work was aimed at 5-14 year olds who were at a high risk of becoming inactive adults. To prevent this from happening, Bradford Council aimed to provide specific interventions to help improve children’s physical and mental well-being, individual and family development, quality of life, community development, active citizenship, health inequalities, collaborative partnerships and engagement with communities.

Our role in this was to provide an audit of all the facilities and stakeholders providing sports and activities for 5-14 year olds across 9 different areas of Bradford, ranging from Allerton to Eccleshill. We mapped a variety of different stakeholders such as schools, community groups, and faith groups. This helped to inform the Council of what, who and where there are/are not provisions for children and young people. Due to our audit, the council can now aim to provide interventions and improve some of the issues listed above.
