University of Leeds family archive project

Summary piece:

Your Back Yard have been asked by Leeds University to work with them on The Family Archive Project, a project which is in collaboration with researchers from across Cardiff, Leeds, Royal Holloway and Birmingham University.

The research looks into how people assemble their family archive; documents, photos, heirlooms, scrapbooks etc, in order to preserve family stories for future generations. It looks to compare some modern methods (blogs, computer files, social media etc ) with previous methods.

The research team are looking to hold 3 focus groups, of about 8 people, in different parts of the country, including one in Leeds. Our job is to use our contacts within local communities in Leeds to get a group together, and to help facilitate the workshop. The focus groups will involve participants taking part in a group discussion, around how they archive their family histories. More information can be found here.
