Your Back Yard have recently received small amount of funding from Sport England, which is to be used to fund a series of free taster sessions aimed at over 50s. If the taster sessions are a success, the classes can continue as a more permanent fixture, increasing the level of health and well-being amongst older people in the LS6 area.
Sports to be included in the programme are walking sports such as walking football and walking netball, guided walks, yoga, and meditation. We have already been in contact with a number of pre-existing groups for over 55s, and they have shown a great amount of interest in taking part in some of the taster sessions, run by local trained professionals. These groups include sports and activity groups, but also include social groups attended by people who sometimes struggle to stay active.
We decided to collaborate with pre-existing groups as this should ensure a strong turnout, making the sessions more valuable for everyone involved. We are hoping that the sessions will have good attendance throughout the winter and into the warmer months, through a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.
