After what seems like many years in the YBY development pipeline. our Healthy Living Park pilot is finally about to get underway, hurrah! The project is aimed at getting more people into Parks, and exercising, particularly those with health and mental health issues. The launch is Tuesday, 14th June, 2pm, in the People’s Park in Halifax, with a planting session with children from one of the local primary schools.
This will be the first of a number of a programme of activities that will take place in the park between June and October.
Activities will include:
- guided walks
- a mini Olympics; football, cricket, table tennis etc
- bike rides for juniors
- a singing performance for those with dementia
- junior fun runs
- a weekly athletics club
- Family Health Day
The programme has been put together on the back of feedback from the 30 or so groups and organisations we contacted in Halifax, many of them working with people with health and mental health issues. A number of these organisations have become active partners, and will be helping design and deliver sessions.
More activities will be added over the next few weeks, but those listed above are all confirmed, and should ensure we hit our target groups; those from the BME communities, young people and those with mental health and CV related health issues.
